Lights strobe

bodies pulse to the heartbeat from the floor

blood humming to the tune

in your ear.

The noise startles you,

brain freeze,

bodies felled,

timber,

screams on mute,

The music commands “baile” but

you start to run,

while the bubble of safety goes pop,

while the gun goes pop.

It happened two years ago today but

it’s been happening in your brain

every day since.

The unbreakable time loop,

pride month but Pulse anniversary,

the ultimate paradox,

the cosmic joke.

You can’t love another until you love yourself,

you can’t love another if you are killed for doing so.

When

does

it

end?
