SUGGESTION- Nobody was expecting it when Cardi B broke out with her smash hit, “Bodak Yellow.” With that song, followed up with big guest verses like Bruno Mars’s “Finesse (Remix)” and Migos’ “Motorsport,” Cardi set high expectations for her debut album. While Invasion of Privacy is full of great tracks, “I Like It” is a standout. Sampling Pete Rodriguez’s classic Latin boogaloo song “I Like It Like That” and featuring Latin rap A-listers J Balvin and Bad Bunny, it is an exciting song with an irresistible groove.
The song opens by introducing the sample, then as the clip fades down Cardi kicks it off with her trademark braggadocio, delivering a high-energy verse about things she likes over what has become an irresistible bubbling latin-trap beat. Rippling 808’s and latin horns join with the groove, fusing into a banger worthy of both radio and club play.
Puerto Rican rapper/singer Bad Bunny gives an equally impressive performance, switching from melodic bilingual lines to high-speed Spanish raps. Meanwhile, Colombian reggaeton singer J Balvin delivers as well, wrapping up the song with another memorable Spanish verse.
Cardi B broke out in 2017 with “Bodak Yellow,” but she has continued her hot streak into 2018. Although she’s now taking time off before she gives birth, she already has put out a year’s worth of hits. Her album “Invasion of Privacy” spawned a spree of them, including “Be Careful,” “Bartier Cardi” and, of course, “I Like It.”
It is Cardi B’s world, and we are just living in it.
